Looking after our Koha Garden

LI - We are learning to look after our environment by adopting a koha garden
We have been very lucky to have Mrs Robertson, the gardening guru, with us this year. We have been learning how to weed and water the garden. We also learnt how to grow vegetables from our koha garden. We grew many kinds of vegetables - kale, spinach, strawberries, tomatoes, potatoes, cabbage and more! We made kale chips and spinach dips and tried some of our vegetables fresh!

Freddy the Fish

As part of our Under the Sea inquiry, we explored the affects of pollution on sea creatures.

Freddy the Fish was a happy fish swimming through the clean water. He noticed that the ocean was starting to change, the water was getting warmer and there were more obstacles in his way.

Freddy swam through... soil from erosion, fertilisers, run off, salt, acid rain, oil from cars and rusty metal. Freddy was not well. We realised that he won't survive long in the sea with all these pollutants contaminating our oceans.

Te Tuhi Trip

At Te Tuhi, we designed dream houses. Here are some photos of what we got up to.

We looked a different shapes. We looked at interesting houses and building from around the world. We then designed and made our dream houses using cut out shapes.

High Tea Mug Design

After our amazing High Tea experience in Room 8/9. We designed 3D mugs to go with our writing piece.

This is my story about the experience:

Quiet in the library

We are learning to enjoy the library

Room 8 love going to the library to get books out every Monday morning. We are good at keeping quiet, reading quietly and putting books away correctly.

Shhh... quiet in the library!

My Self Portrait

I am learning to draw a portrait of myself.

Room 8 has been working on their self portraits this term.

We started off by sketching ourselves without any direction. We then drew ourselves with direction from the teacher to ensure all our facial features were in the right place. After we were happy with our entire sketch, we outlined in vivid and coloured using water soluble pastels. The pastels turned into paint after water was added. We chose a pair of sunglasses to wear in our portraits.

I can draw all the facial features in the correct place.

Our work looks beautiful!
